Energy Relief Grant 2024-25
The Australian government introduced the Energy Relief Grant in 2024-25 to help alleviate the financial burden of high energy bills and manage the rising cost of electricity. This initiative is designed to help manage rising electricity costs and ease the financial burden associated with high energy bills.
Two categories of recipients are eligible for the Energy Relief Grant: small businesses and households. All Australian households are eligible to receive a $300 rebate per year, regardless of whether they live in an external territory.
Small businesses that meet the threshold for electricity consumption set by their state/territory can receive an annual rebate of $325.

What is the new rebate amount?
Every family will be able to get a $300 rebate. This will be paid out in 75-cent quarterly installments.
Small businesses that qualify will receive a rebate of $325, payable in quarterly installments of $81.25.
Energy Relief Grant Eligibility
The Australia Energy Bill is divided into two categories. Each category has its own eligibility requirements. The households must be Australian residents and have an active connection to electricity with a participating retailer.
Small businesses must be registered in Australia and operate there. Their annual electricity consumption must also fall below the threshold set by their state/territories. These rates are specific; South Australia, for example, defines a small company as one that consumes less than 160MWh annually.
Your business must therefore be taxed separately from your retailer for your electricity connection.
How to claim?
Households
The Australian Government collaborates with electricity retail outlets to ensure automatic rebates. The $300 benefit is divided into four quarterly payments and will be credited to your electricity bill throughout the year starting July 1, 2024.
If you haven’t been able to receive the rebate within the time frame specified, contact your electricity retailer and ask about the process.
